Get ready to ride the lightning, as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts Metallica Season 4 is coming to “Fortnite” as “Festival” icons.
Two special events (presented during six showtimes) on June 22 and 23, titled “Metallica: Fuel. fire Fury,” will take players on a journey through six of the iconic band’s fan-favorite songs, featuring gameplay to match the intensity.
Rockers James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo and Lars Ulrich also come to the game with new outfits, which can be unlocked through the in-game “Festival” pass and in the shop. The popular “Festival” mode also gets an upgrade for Season 4, introducing a PvP battle stage. Sixteen players enter, but only one will emerge victorious in the musical free-all.
Metallica’s “One” jam track is included in the premium reward tier of the “Festival” pass, and other songs available for purchase in the shop include “Enter Sandman,” “Fuel,” “Master of Puppets,” “Ride the Lightning,” “The Unforgiven” and “Wherever I Turn.”
The “Fortnite” “Battle Royale” mode also gets a heavy metal upgrade, with a new “Ride the Lightning” guitar allowing players to create a lightning arc in the sky that their squadmates can ride. In the middle of each match, a floating Metallica Loot Island would burst through a hole in the sky boasting a stage inspired by the M72 World Tour.
Rocket racing gets a fair twist with the new Thrash Mountain Track, a volcanic circuit that serves as a tribute to all things musical monuments, a road surface like a fretboard, and Metallica’s “Fuel” playing in the background.
Hetfield, Hammett, Trujillo and Ulrich are in good company as “Fortnite Festival’s” Season 4 icons — previously held by The Weeknd, Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish.
