Understanding the function of certain buttons on a TV remote can be challenging, especially when you are switching to a different brand of TV. Samsung offers several variants of its remote, which makes things even more difficult for users. So, in this guide, we will explain the use of each button on the remote.
For the sake of understanding, we will cover two versions of Samsung Smart TV remote – Classic and New Smart TV.
1. POWER BUTTON: The red button you see on the top of the remote is called the power button. You can use this button to turn the TV on or off.
2. 123 button or numeric keypad: Press the numeric buttons to bring up a virtual numeric pad on your TV screen. You can use it to change channels, enter PIN, login credentials, etc. Whereas, on the older version of Samsung Smart TV remote, you will find dedicated numeric buttons.
3. home button: Pressing this button will return you to your home screen.
4. back button: Press this button to return to the previous screen or menu.
5, 4 Colored Buttons: These buttons are usually used for quick access to specific functions or features. They won’t work everywhere, but when they do, an on-screen menu will usually tell you what each colored button does.
Note: On newer Samsung TV remotes (First – Image), press the 123/COLOR button simultaneously to use this feature.
6. Play/Pause Button: As the name suggests, this button will play or pause the video or music playing on your Samsung TV.
7. Streaming app button: On some Samsung Smart TV remotes, you’ll find shortcut buttons for Netflix, Prime Video, Samsung TV Plus, or other streaming services. Pressing any of these buttons will launch the respective streaming app.
8, Directional buttons: Use this button to navigate through the on-screen menus on your TV. On older style Samsung remotes, you will find four directional arrows. Whereas, on newer and more modern models, you will find a circular button.
For example, pressing the top or bottom part of the circle or arrow key will allow you to scroll up and down, respectively.
9. + and – buttons: Use this button to control the volume of your TV. Move the button up or down to increase or decrease the volume. Whereas, press the button to mute the sound.
In older models, you will find a dedicated button to mute the TV sound.
10. Up and Down Arrow Buttons: Move the button up or down to change channels on your TV.
11. Button inside a circle or directional arrow: Think of this button as the Select button. You can use it to select the currently highlighted item on your TV screen. You can also use it to play/pause media.
12. Mic button: Use this button to activate the voice assistant on your smart TV. By default, Bixby will be your voice assistant. However, you can switch to other voice assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant through your TV’s settings.
13. Rectangular button with a plus sign: Press this button to enter the Multi-View function. If you are not familiar with the Multi-View feature, it allows you to simultaneously enjoy different types of content including live channels, apps, games, and mirrored content from your mobile device.
Also, if you press this button for more than 1 second, it will display a menu screen.
14. Source button: Press this button to select the available video sources. For example, if you have connected your PC or gaming console via HDMI, you can use this button to switch between different video sources.
